Vienna on the whole may bring in performance companies that are maybe a little better than Budapest or Prague. I don't have such a discerning ear that I can tell, but if someone were to tell me this I would be inclined to believe it. After all, there are more tourists "of a type" with more money than you will find in Budapest or Prague.
In terms of airfares, what is a deal price for US East Coast to Budapest or Prague. Right now, to Budapest it is 60,000 to 65,000 miles, and one can get air fares for $600. Presumably sale fares will be $450. To Prague, since sales to summer hasn't opened it is about $800 - $1,000 but presumably will be $500 - $550 when on sale, if it indeed
Prague to Budapest: 6 hours 41 minutes Budapest to Krakow: 9 hours 54 minutes (flying might be better) Best add-ons to cheap Eastern Europe. Cesky Krumlov, Czechia (2 nights) Ljubljana, Slovenia (2 or 3 nights) Split, Croatia (3 nights) Belgrade, Serbia (2 or 3 nights) Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (2 or 3 nights) Sofia, Bulgaria (2 or 3 nights)
Prague. Like Paris (and much of Europe), the weather of Prague tends to be moderate. Although snowstorms may be more common, this is not necessarily a negative point as it arguably gives the city an immense charm. However, visitors to Prague may find winter temperatures a bit more hostile than those visiting Paris, as temperatures below
I would suggest taking the day away from Budapest rather than taking it away from Prague. I would suggest spending as much time in Prague as possible. We have lived in Prague and it is so very rich in history, art, architecture, music, friendly people, things to see and do, places to eat, and just plain atmosphere, less than 3 days would not do
Sounds like the last 2 makes most sense. Plus Salzburg/Innsbruck are a ways out. If you want to cut that 8 hour rail trip add in Bratislava for 1 day only and add a day to Prague or Budapest. You are not at ridiculous rush levels, so yeah you could add in cities with those days.but there is more than enough to do in all these cities to stay
Living in Budapest, and having been to Prague, I have to say that there is more to see here than in Prague. You can see all of the major sights, without being rushed, in 2 days. You can walk across Lanchid bridge (chain bridge), and take the funiclar up to the Castle District, and see the whole area including Fisherman's Bastion, and Mattyas

@MarthyJ. Everyone has a bias. ;) Personally, I think Budapest and Prague are very similar. But, I prefer Budapest between the two. Though Prague wins for beer. @kasuperwoman. The Budapest Christmas Market is a bit smaller than Dresdan, but quite crowded so not sure what you are exactly looking for.
